Meet George. George prefers his history accurate, animals obscure, and costumes ornate. He has a wide streak of humor, a deep love of family, and a strong affinity for purple. He also has Tourette syndrome (primary: gross motor) and OCD. At the start of fourth grade we began exploring his love of learning at home. This website serves as an occasional showcase of what we cover. Thoughtful recommendations and reflections welcome.

Soldier on
The next two weeks we will have off, allowing a week for relaxation and a week for planning out the North Carolina fifth grade objectives. When I shared this with George, he replied with no small amount of outrage, "Well then, I guess I'll have to make my own assignments!"
Shown above George works on his first self-assignment: a toy soldier he designed, both face-on and in profile, then modeled in bakeable clay.
Note that he's wearing long pants with a short sleeve shirt, a huge (if unseasonable) step with his OCD. (Now if we can get him to leave unbuttoned that top button...)
